The making of cloth or yarn from fiber. Entry should be skein or on spool; no woven cloth, embroidery, etc. Multiple skeins/spools of the same product may be entered to show quantity produced. Entrant should note fiber used and means of spinning(drop spindle, hand distaff, wheel, etc.)

DOCUMENTATION (0-4 points) Must have at least a 3X5 card. More is acceptable. Give one point for each of the following that is present:

• Identification/Description of the entry.
• Approximate date and place/nationality in history that the entry is modeled upon.
• Includes materials/tools list OR states method used to complete entry.
• Cites at least one reference, either illustrative (pictures) or descriptive relating to either A) period use of such item OR B) period method of constructing such item OR C) both A & B.

• 0:Blatantly modern in some aspect (Ex. man-made fiber, modern color, etc.)
• 1:Generally period, with some obviously modern elements (Ex. used electric wheel to produce period looking results), OR obvious mixture of materials or techniques from radically different cultures or periods.

QUALITY (1-6 points) Evaluate the work as a whole.

• 3:Same as #2 with citation of at least one period example, with discussion of techniques or materials, but no period examples cited.
• 4:#3 with very complete examples and discussion, including rationale for techniques and fibers used in this entry, their appropriateness to each other, and the appropriateness of product to intended use. Explains original research or experiment. Explains any deviations or variations from period norm.
